Task 4: Design Book Review

Sigh, been very lazy/forgetful with my blog posts so now its a case of catch up... so i hope you like lots of daily posts :)

So while we where doing our class speech on our chosen fields of design Joh mention a book on logos that was really good... so i cheaked out this book and was very impressed.

Logo Design by Ed.Juiums is a collection of well over 2000 logos, and several case study's on logo design and Brand identities including that of mtv an cctv. It also features several interviews with leading Graphic designers including the likes of Stefan Stagmienster and Jeff Knowls..

There is how ever one problem with this book.. ..ITS ALL IN GERMAN!!!!!..

But you can look past this slight flaw the imagery alone in this book makes it well worth your time. There's such a broad range of brilliant logo designs its hard not to be inspired by this book. in fact i like it so much Ive asked for it to be put under my Christmas tree.

so when i return it to our library give 'logo design Volume 2' a look you wont be disappointed.

Logotastic

The old

The new

This was briefly mentioned in class and by the media.. mostly with negative comments against it and it $250,000 price tag.

But i'll stand alone and say i like it. i love how diverse it is but at the same time it simplicity which is a huge difference to Melbourne's old logo.

Heres some examples oh how its being used around the city.

Melbourne's city council where after a logo that showed as a "dynamic, progressive city, internationally recognized for its diversity, innovation, sustainability, and livability" i think the new logo achieves this.... but what do you think?
i'm sure you have all heard of Shepard Fairey work. made famous by is Obama image, which was used during the 2008 U.S presidential Elections.

Obay!

i just wanted put up some of his images for one reason i like them... from the colors used to there propaganda style imagery.

so enjoy some of of my favorites from his site www.obaygiant.com

task 3: Magazine Review

An article from juxtapoz 06/09

contemporary artist/designer Jeff Soto

This article is centered round an interview with Jeff Soto whos street art styled, politically and environmentally inspired works are slow gaining him fame within the art community. Coming of the back of Soto's 1st large Scale exhibition at the riverside gallery, interviewer John Trippe who is a fan of Soto's work, asks the perfect questions needed for the reader to gain incite into how and why Soto paints. Combined with the full page spread of sotos works this article is defiantly worth a read.

task5:dylan cole

Concept artists or Visual developers are illustrators whose main goal is to convey a visual representation of a design, idea, and or mood for use in film and games, before it is put into the final product.

I decided to mention this field while searching for images for an assignment and recalling a Concept artist Dylan Cole, who's work I very much admire. I thought it would be perfect to share some of his stuff with you and briefly explain what concept design is . The artist has worked on some huge films and game titles, including the likes of Star Wars, Halo, Star Trek, Transformers, Lord of the Rings- the list goes on and on.

Dylan Cole.

These two images are from Dylan Cole's work with the Halo video game. They are created from a mix of painting and photo manipulation in photoshop and Coral painter.

Cristiano Siqueira

While surfing through Behence.com the work of Cristiano Siqueira caught my eye so I thought I'd pick two of my favorite images to show you.

Metamorphosis

Nuclear Nightmare

Now the big questions is, why do i like these images? I think it can be related back to the old days when I use to do a lot of painting in photo-shop. This allows me to admire the skill it takes to create images of this Calliber that are not only detailed but full of emotion. So hats off to this Sao Paulo baced illustrator!
